Kinky Friedman - Get your Biscuits...

Kinky Friedman performing his very silly 70s song "Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed". It won him a Male Chauvinist Pig of the year award from the National Organisation of Women in 1974. In reality it is more daft than offensive.

I wish there was more Kinky Friedman on You tube. Some of his songs are very funny (They ain't making Jews like Jesus anymore); on the other hand his cover of "the Ballad of Ira Hayes" is possibly the best version of the song available.

There is a tad of Allan Sherman in Kinky Freidman.

His novels are hilarious, though one is much like another. He doesn't take himself too seriously. Kinky is a decent and funny guy, as long as you stay clear of his politics. That may be the only political matter on which EWBL and I probably agree... though I may be mistaken. :)

I voted for him, Steve! :)

What choice did I have? The corrupt Rick Perry and all his Trans Corridor shenanigans. The punitive and spiteful Chris Bell. One tough Grandma, who's been enmeshed in Texas politics since way back and likely wouldn't offer any change. No, for me there was no other choice.

Anyway, Kinky makes the hot sauce by which all other political candidates are judged. Very, very good.

Of course, I blogged about the big gubernatorial event!

Want to know something weird, Steve? Out of all my peeps at church, friends, and family, I haven't met a single soul who cast a vote for Perry. I'm not sure what to make of that.

He certainly can write a funny song and a funny novel. Beakerkin. No doubt about that

Steve, EWBL. I found the idea of Kinky as governor quite amusing. I got the impression that the teh REpublican/Democrat choices were rather underwhelming (If an american I probably would be on the left of the Democrats so I may have felt compelled to viote for Bell.

At least we have some hilarious and heartfelt songs and a collection of very readable detective stories!

While I voted for Chris Bell, I have to admit Bell is one of the least interesting souls on the planet. Perry, as you say, EWBL, is bought and paid for; some of his El Paso big contributors have said as much right out loud. Kinky... well, I have trouble with some of the things he has said in the past that led me to believe he doesn't think women are coequal citizens (and no, I'm not talking about the abortion issue here). And of course he's a Republican, and has held local office as a Republican.

On the plus side, I really do enjoy Kinky's novels, and he has done good things in the area of animal rescue. I like Kinky; I just don't want him for governor.

Of course, the late lamented Molly Ivins penned two of Kinky's best campaign slogans: "Kinky for Governor: Why The Hell Not?" and "Kinky for Governor: How Hard Can it Be?" No kidding... GeeDubya once held the office. :)

I suppose for me the idea of a musician and writer I like on teh campaign trail amused majorly! Shame the Democrat candidate left a lot to be desired by looks of it
